Pieces are hand carved from sheesham wood and boxwood for lasting quality
Sheesham wood ranges in color from dark to light brown; it is easier to carve than other woods and is more readily available making it a popular choice for relatively inexpensive chess sets
Boxwood ranges in color from a yellowish white to a yellowish brown, has almost no visible wood grain, and is often used to make the white pieces in wood chess sets
Light boxwood and darker sheesham wood pieces give this set a beautiful contrast for display or for easy identification during play
Traditional Staunton style of the pieces is a classic chess set design
