Pieces are hand carved from ebony wood and boxwood for lasting quality
Ebony wood is extremely desirable because it is the wood traditionally used to make black and white chess sets and because pieces made of it can be polished to a shiny finish
Boxwood ranges in color from a yellowish white to a yellowish brown, has almost no visible wood grain, and is often used to make the white pieces in wood chess sets
Light boxwood and dark ebony pieces give this set a beautiful contrast for display or for easy identification during play
Traditional Staunton style of the pieces is a classic chess set design
